They say “save the best for last” but for me this show of Ezra is the best even if they showed it on a first day of FFWD! I’m very excited to share with you what he’s collection is all about, but let me tell some information about this awesome designer. Ezra Santos is a Manila-born designer (hands up coz I’m proud Pinoy!) who studied many courses like Fine Arts at the Philippine Women’s University,
Fashion Design at Slims Fashion and Arts School and he also go on board his study in Central St. Martins in London, where he took extensive graduate courses in cutting, draping and learned to hone his craft while traveling around capitals of the world. Ezra also had amazing shows in a big city like New York, Dubai and of course Manila. Now, he opened his own atelier in Dubai.
And now let’s talk about his designs. It is obvious on my title above, Ezra named his collection - THE MARIA CLARA COLLECTION. I’m so great because as soon as the first model came out showing the design, I immediately thought of a modern Maria Clara which Ezra gave a twist each on it. (yaaaay so amazing!!!) He used Pina (Pineapple Fibre), which is very popular in the Philippines to create a textile to use as fabric for the famous Barong Tagalog, Maria Clara and wedding gowns. He used also inabel which is another organic fabric from Philippines and tulle, jacquard, crepe silk and neoprene. Ezra inspiration is the old Manila in the late 1930’s and the beauty of the older days which myself research on it, I can’t help it I want to know the history and other facts about it (naks, feeling pro sa pag-research) how the gorgeous mestizas clad in their finest Maria Clara and the days of the Spanish occupancy in the Philippines. From then on, the Spanish spread their fashion among the Filipinos and it makes major influence in the Philippine fashion industry. I really admire his collection it is so elegant and has lady like aura, especially I loved the color shades he used which make the designs stand out!
